First blog....

Hi! Several people back at home have asked me if I would blog my trip, and I decided to give it a try. It's actually not as difficult as I thought it would be.

Basically, I chose to study abroad this semester in Budapest, Hungary. I wanted a trip that was different from what most SLU students did, and I'm definitely getting it. I'm the only SLU student here with four others from the University of San Francisco, and together we are the only Americans in a group of other International students (most of whom are from Europe and haven't even arrived yet). I really like everyone I have met so far. The other Americans and I were given tutors who are students from the school here in Budapest, and they are fabulous and a tremendous help. My tutor's name is Bogi and she is absolutely sweet.

It's only been a few days since I have arrived, and yes I am feeling jet-lagged. My birthday was yesterday, and for that Bogi took me to a water polo match. We saw Italy play Spain, and Hungary play Germany. These are the national teams of those countries, like the teams that go to the Olympics. I was psyched! Afterwards, Bogi and I got pictures with one of the Hungarian players, and a few others signed my ticket. It was so different the way Hungarians interacted with their athletes. In the US, these players probably would have been bombarded by fans, but I was surprised to see the the Hungarian players could very well mingle with the crowds just fine. I like that.

I spent the entire day today at the Buda Castle at an art fair, which was fabulous. There were many traditional Hungarian crafts, music, dancing, and dress. I loved it. I'm going to have to figure out how to upload pictures onto this blog, because I can't explain everything that I saw!

Tomorrow, classes start. I am actually very nervous because I have no idea how to get to the school. We'll see how that goes!

Thanks for reading my blog, I hope that it helps me keep in touch with you :-)

Love, Amy

  1. Hi Amy. How cool to see olympic level water polo. If you want to put photos on your blog, it's pretty easy. I think you go to new post and above the square where you type your words, there is an icon that looks like a picture. When you click that it says "add pictures" and then you browse for them in a file on your computer and then add them. I hope you figure it out, but if you don't, you can always post onto facebook, right?

  2. Amy! I'm so glad I found your blog and can't wait to hear more! Budapest sounds so cool. Good for you for being different and adventurous. That takes courage! I'm sure your experience will be phenomenal and very different than being with a bunch of SLU kids in Madrid.
